Project Summary
This project reimagined the opening title sequence of Gattaca, Andrew Niccol’s 1997 Sci-Fi Drama starring Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke, and Jude Law. The original sequence used in the film highlighted DNA but with an emphasis on being conscious of it being evidence in the movie’s society.
For the title sequence we made, we emphasized the unique human traits that are easily seen; detached earlobes, nearsightedness, curly hair, etc. To accomplish this, we film our subjects with red and blue spotlights and added a warp stabilizer effect in post. To complete the sequence we added a C4D DNA scene, included footage of a splitting cell, and titles of the actors with a displacement map effect.
Overall, I am proud of the final result and I think that these titles effectively communicate the actors, the subject matter and the feel of the film.
